research - 12/2021

Today the easiest way to find photos is by using the Google search bar. Most of the time, the first results to show up are stock photos. Those are often monotonous and impersonal. So I asked myself: In a world drowning under images, what can reappropriation of photographs bring to graphic design? I studied the different ways of collecting photos by examining the practice of artists and graphic designers, I tried to define what attracts us in an image and how you can guide the viewer’s eyes to this point of interest. Finally, I analysed the act of reappropriation, the effects it creates and its limits.
